Garden Shed Halloween Spooky Plant Shop Decor
Step into my Tuffshed garden shed this Halloween and get transported into the spookiest little greenhouse plant shop. Just don’t feed the plants please…
I’ve had my new Tuffshed for seven months now and ever since it arrived, I already knew exactly how I wanted to decorate it for Halloween. I was literally counting down the days all through the growing season to start transforming it into a spooky plant shop. I didn’t know how I was going to pull it off, but my brain was swimming with ideas.
The shed is split into two separate rooms with a partition wall, so I only needed to decorate the greenhouse side. I was worried the skylights and wall to wall windows would kill the eerie vibe, but honestly it made it better. I am so proud of how it turned out and beyond excited to welcome you into my Halloween plant shop. Keep your hands to yourself and don’t feed the plants please, no matter what they try to tell you.

I wanted the entrance to feel kind of spooky but not scary enough to deter a “customer”, so I made this viney woodsy arch around the door. I foraged branches from the woods by my house and attached them together with brown metal wire.

The faux vines and Spanish moss look so real and even after a big wind storm this weekend, they stayed put. The fallen leaves keep getting stuck in the top area, but I think it looks kind of cool so I stopped cleaning them off. And those huge fluffy ferns? They’re fake too. They look so authentic that I actually caught my husband watering them one day!

To fill in around the doorway, I hired our local pumpkin patch owner to bring a big variety of pumpkins, ornamental kale, and mums that fit the vibe. She totally understood my vision, and the way she arranged them was absolutely perfect. I added in a few frogs, and they’re such a fun little surprise.

And let’s just have a moment for the entire garden outside, because for it to be the fall season, it’s still pretty full. Usually there are just herbs for tea here, but I added some cool season veggies to keep the raised beds from drying out. I’m in love with this garden flag too…would it be weird if I left it up year-round?

Ok, here’s where it gets fun. Open the door and you’re greeted by none other than Audrey II! I found her at Michael’s on super-sale and just had to have her. Nothing says spooky plant shop like a giant carnivorous plant screaming “feed me!” [And yes, that song has been in my head all month long.] There’s a mini 3-headed version of her in here too, because why not? [Side note, they’re not on the Michael’s website anymore so I guess they were a limited season item. Sorry I can’t link them.]

All around the plant shop are more, um, unique plants you probably wouldn’t want to actually buy if this were a real store. These Venus flytrap plant picks turned my monstera and hoya plants into mini monsters that would definitely take a finger off if you got too close. And the eyeballs in the pothos are a nice mix of creepy and cute.

The black tentacles in the aloe and succulents are probably my favorite. They’re so wiggly and fun. Most of the plants in my shed are real, but I did mix in a few fakes just to fill in the gaps. Usually my shelves are full of seedlings but now that the growing season is over, it’s a little bare in here.

If you can peel your eyes away from the plants and look up, I draped the rafters with green creepy cloth. It’s like a gauze material and if you Google it, it’s literally called Creepy Cloth. I’m not exactly sure how this became a Halloween staple or what it would realistically be used for, but it does a great job dappling the light on sunny days. I added more over the back window and on my vintage elephant plant stands, and I have to agree that it is in fact creepy.

The rest of the room is packed with spooky little surprises. Books about killer plants, potions and poisons, magic wands made by a local Appalachian elder, stained glass, and even some taxidermy to make things more weird than they already are. There’s no such thing as “over the top” when it comes to Halloween decorations, right?

The whole vibe of this spooky plant shop garden shed is just the coolest feeling. You walk in and feel like you’re in another world. Or maybe just a side of town you shouldn’t be on. Either way, the vision absolutely came to life and I couldn’t be happier with it.
