Morning Coffee: Final Projects of 2022, Holiday Plans, & A Dream That Made Me Take Action

August 6, 2022 · In: Saturday Morning Coffee Date

Happy Saturday! Grab a cup of coffee and snuggle up in your favorite seat of the house as we chat about all things home, life, and randomness.

We’ve lived in our house for a little over two years, and we’ve been renovating the interior the whole time. I’m such a planner, and I created a Phase One and Phase Two of the renovation process. Now that the laundry room is complete, I have just two more rooms to complete the Phase One plans: The Theater (aka The Collections Room) and my Studio.

Yes, I have been working on my Studio on and off for the last year, but I wasn’t able to get it right. I thought I liked it bright and colorful but it ended up feeling chaotic and cluttered. I thought I wanted to tone it down and make it super minimal, but it just doesn’t feel personalized to me and my team. So here I am giving it one more try and I couldn’t love the top-secret plans more.

Keep your eyes on my TikTok page over the next two weeks because both projects will be documented there. And if you’re not on TikTok, don’t worry. I’ll recap it all here on the blog. I just shared the paint samples I’m deciding between and painting will start tomorrow!

What’s On My Mind This Saturday Morning

Last night I dreamt that my lawn mower caught on fire in the garage. I rushed it out to the driveway and ran to the back of the house to get the water hose but the hose wasn’t there. When I came back to the driveway the whole house was on fire. I woke up from this dream at 2am, immediately got on Amazon and bought two fire extinguishers. If you don’t have any fire extinguishers in your house either, here’s your reminder to get some.

The team at Erin Condren sent me a surprise box of Back To School items from their new collection, and the Family Organizer Book was in it! I can’t wait to start documenting family memories in it. It’s like a grown-up version of scrapbooking.

Speaking of Back To School time, my son Noah started high school this week. We spent last weekend packing and organizing his new backpack with pens, highlighters, and folders. Can you believe he asked me to use my Cricut machines to make custom labels for his folders? That kid is SO like me.

I was influenced by the constant ads for Sunday Lawn Care on Instagram and finally pulled the trigger. I sent in the soil test kit and just got my customized box of supplies. You can find me standing in my yard being a human sprinkler all weekend hoping this $300 lawn care kit works. Haha!

One Last Thought

Is it too early to be thinking about the holiday season? I have been spending a lot of time in the evenings scrolling Pinterest and saving ideas for our Winter Family Dinner, Solstice decor, and holiday crafts to make. By the time November arrives I may already be tired of it… oops!

When do you start thinking about the holidays? And when do you start planning them? Late July/Early August is always when my thoughts start swirling, and by September my Holiday Planner is crammed full of ideas.

We love having you for coffee every week, Lori! And yes, we’re hoping as much as you are that the lawn care kit works. 😀 Have a great week.

Think outside the box and look in different aisles at Target. You might find that the best craft room organizer is actually in the bathroom aisle. 😉

Think labels are just for aesthetics? Having label Think labels are just for aesthetics? Having labels on all your bins, both clear and opaque, help you and your family be reminded to put things back where they go.
It might seem silly to put a label on a clear container, but just seeing the words tells your brain to put the item away instead of just laying it down on the counter.
CHALLENGE: Find something in your home that could benefit from having a label and make one for it today. Even if it’s just a post-it note temporarily. Getting in the habit of making and seeing labels will make you so much more organized.
