If you’ve been following along with my Stories on Instagram, you’ve been seeing a lot of tidbits of the hall bathroom lately.
I’ve been remodeling it for such a long time, and at one point I thought it was never going to get done.
I considered just turning off the water in there, locking the door, and telling everyone it’s just a random junk closet.
Okay, I get it. That’s a little dramatic…
But it totally went through my mind once or twice. Or 12 times.
I powered through, though, and I can safely say The Bathroom Is Done.
Pass me the championship belt, blast my victory song, and pop the champagne.
And never, never, never make me remodel a bathroom again. (This year. Ha!)
Before
So here it was in the beginning.
Boring. Boring. Boring.
A little while after moving in I added beadboard wallpaper, new hooks, mirror frame, and fresh new faucet.
But looking back, it was still boring.
Hey, every project can’t be a winner, right?
After
But this one? Yep, it’s a winner.
It’s the universal champion kind of winner.
The kind of winner that you carry your victory photo (or in my case, the “after” photo) around in your wallet and show it off before you even show off your kids.
Yeah, it’s a big deal.
Dark Moody Walls
For starters, I think I can absolutely positively say that I’ve found my own personal style.
I took off that beadboard wallpaper (which was way harder to remove than it was to install) but left the chair rail.
I coated the walls and chair rail with Valspar’s Corduroy Black.
Bonus points to you if you recognized that paint color from my interior doors, my kitchen cabinets, and my bedroom accent wall.
I would love to say I coordinated it that way because I wanted my house to be cohesive, but honestly, I just really love that stinkin’ color.
I also added that sweet alpaca canvas print that Brad named “Beverly.”
FYI, if you ever come to visit, you must speak to Beverly upon entering the bathroom. It’s a rule. And a southern hospitality thing.
Open Airy Shelving
I also removed that ridiculous storage cabinet and replaced it with a natural wood floating shelf.
Okay, yes, that silly cabinet added storage to a very small bathroom. But the mirror actually opens up into a spacious hidden cabinet within the wall, so the massive eyesore over the toilet wasn’t really necessary anyway.
Just taking that big piece of furniture out really opened up the space and made it feel a lot more airy.
The wood shelf is perfect for holding fun toiletries to offer guests during parties.
I love putting out this hand scrub from Isle Of Luxe when I have get-togethers at home. My friends and family have come to expect it and if I forget to put it out, my love for them is questioned. #theyonlycometomypartiesforthehandscrub
I also put out a small covered dish of those chocolate mints you get from Olive Garden for guests to grab when they’re freshening up. I think it makes it fancy to have chocolate mints offered in the restroom. My hub thinks it’s weird. You decide.
Modern Patterned Tile
But it’s safe to say that the real change happened on the floor.
Before, there were beige builder-grade tile. Ew.
And the grout was, um, not the color it started as. Double Ew.
But ripping out the old tile and replacing it with new was not in my budget at all.
So I found this amazing stencil from Pearl Design Studio on Etsy and gave the floors the makeover they were dying for.
I used the same color for the pattern that I used on the walls, so it all ties together really well.
And I’m so in love with the cool modern vibe it has. It’s one thousand, no, one million times better than that plain old beige tile.
Do you love it too? Check out this post for a full tutorial on how I transformed this floor on a super tight budget.

Layers Of Texture
The bathroom was looking pretty muted and I knew I wanted to add a little Pop of something to give it some edge.
I found these incredibly cool hexagon wood wall planters on Etsy and the super sweet shop owner, [Shoutout Gemma!] custom made this set to the exact colors I wanted.
I chose a natural wood tone in a super light finish with a white accent. I didn’t want to do the same shade of wood as the shelf because I thought the room was feeling a little flat. The multi-woods and the fluffy texture of the greenery gave the bathroom more layers and upped the modern factor dramatically.
The wood hex’s have a magnet attached and come with the cutest and tiniest little vases you’ve ever seen, so you can fill them with sprigs of the real thing, not those weird fake branches you see at craft stores for $20 a piece. The vase bases just pop on and off with another magnet to make refilling water a breeze.
I fill mine with bouquet fillers and my fave florist will usually just give me a couple for free when I need to replace them.
(Make friends, people. Making friends equals getting stuff fo’ free.)
Overall, I’m over the moon with how it turned out.
It was a crazy amount of work, and I cussed more than I have in quite a while, but it was totally worth it.

That’s an excellent idea. Consider what the bathroom offers you currently (plumbing apparatuses, surfaces, completes the process of, lighting) and choose what changes to make.
