Vintage Modern Living Room (And A Big Announcement)

February 21, 2017 · In: Fave Finds, Styling Tips

Vintage Modern Living Room With Texture Mood Board

I’m such a huge fan of mixing modern touches with vintage vibes.

There’s just something so elegant yet comfortable about the combo.

It’s the perfect way to blend the tastes and styles of spouses, too.

When it comes to vintage accents, less is definitely more.

When you go all out with antiques, your home is very likely to look outdated.

And unless you’re 85 years old and you’re set in your ways, I doubt the look you’re going for is ‘outdated.’

On the other hand, ultra modern homes seem a little cold and uninviting.

They look cool on Pinterest, and gorgeous on Instagram, but when you’re physically standing in an all-white room with sleek furniture and extra smooth surfaces, you’re going to be a little afraid to sit down somewhere. Or even walk around comfortably.

So how do you find the perfect balance?

You plop the two styles together.

Blending modern and vintage is the ultimate cozy factor.

And that’s what I did when I created this style board.

I opted for a traditional sofa, inviting chairs, modern rug, pops of color, tons of texture, and vintage accents.

There are no design rules of sticking with one specific style, as long as the elements work together.

And these totally do.

Want to know the main reason I love this design?

It’s mine.

Yep, big things are happening at The New House!

This style board will become my reality over the next few days.

We’re ditching the cottage-farmhouse style in exchange for something that suits our taste as a couple.

We’ve finally found our style, and guess what?

It doesn’t fit into a category.

I stopped trying to stick with a theme and started decorating for Us.

And you should, too.

Design styles are meant to be blended, and over the next couple of months, I’ll teach you how.

Be sure you’re subscribed to my email list so you stay up-to-date on the big changes happening throughout our home, along with some upcoming tips, tutorials, and training sessions on finding your own personal style and putting it all together.

And I’ll share my progress on Instagram @inthenewhouse so you can watch it all unfold. 🙂

I’d love to hear about your tastes, styles, and challenges when it comes to decorating your own home.

Do you have differing tastes than your spouse?

Do you struggle finding your own personal style?

Do you fall into the “one style only” category built on Pinterest photos?

Do you have no friggin’ clue where to even start?

Don’t feel bad, we all feel that way sometimes.
